Charlotte Dujardin Clinic

We are very excited to be attending the Scott Hayes Productions Charlotte Dujardin Through the Levels Clinic. It is scheduled for October 3rd and 4th at Devonwood Equestrian Center in Sherwood, Oregon, just outside Portland.

Phenomenal Pacific NW horse and rider combinations have been selected! Notably the 2015 Markel/USEF Young Dressage Horse Reserve National Champion Four Year Old Generosa S (KWPN) and her rider Brook Voldbaek of Sonnenberg Farm. As well as Jessica Wisdom and her welsh cob stallion Norths Forks Cardi, champions of the 2014 US Dressage Grand Prix Open Freestyle.

Charlotte is the top dressage rider the world, representing her home country Britain. Her accomplishments include Double Gold Medalist at the London 2012 Olympics Games, European Champion, and World Champion. Not to mention that she and her wonder-horse partner Valegro currently hold all three World Records in Dressage.

Congratulations American Pharoah

America has waited 37 years for the twelfth Triple Crown champion.  And while we don’t want to take away from American Pharoah’s wins, it is interesting to note that race horses have not gotten faster which may be the reason it took so long to achieve another Triple Crown winner. Secretariat still holds all three racing records. Dr. David Ramey, DVM, wrote a great article talking about this subject and we recommend you read all about it here.

It is glamorous to see the races and watch the wins, irrespective of the times posted. To us, sport horses are impressive athletes, period. All that being said, while we congratulate on the one hand, let’s take a moment to bring a little more awareness to behind the scenes of the racing industry on the other. Too many Off Track Thoroughbreds, or Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds (OTTB), need a second career and a new home with a new lease on life because racing was not where their hearts were. Only a precious few ever make it to a full, pampered retirement as a prized breeding stallion or mare. So please check out these OTTB resources to learn more about adopting and retraining for an amazing athlete!
